Volunteer Opportunities

Neighborhood cleanup and beautification events. All are welcome, but supervision is not provided for minors — students must be accompanied by a registered adult participant throughout the event. Events run 8:00am-noon; volunteers can stay for as little as an hour or the full four hours.

Join a community tree planting or tree care event with Urban Forest Friends, a Tri-City nonprofit that works with the City of Fremont and City of Newark on their Urban Forest Program. Planting season runs October through March; tree care and outreach events happen year round.

Saturday morning workdays at the Tule Ponds wetland preserve in Fremont: habitat upkeep, trail and pond maintenance, and general site work.

A new composting-with-worms program run by Math Science Nucleus. Hands-on environmental work for students interested in soil science and waste reduction.

Garden and grounds work at the historic Shinn Park heirloom gardens in Fremont. No experience needed. Regular Tuesday sessions plus three larger service days in September.

Help maintain the pollinator garden and grounds at the Nature Learning Center through organized volunteer workdays. Tasks vary by session and may include weeding, planting, watering, and general garden upkeep.

Volunteer at City of Fremont park cleanups, creek cleanups, and habitat restoration events. Tasks may include removing litter, sorting recyclables, watering native plants, removing invasive plants, and mulching. Students can earn community service hours for participating.

Pruning orchard trees, hauling cut branches to the scrap pile, and (when wood chips are delivered) filling wheelbarrows, dumping, and raking chips around the orchard.
