Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities for teens in all kinds of areas around the historic railway. The primary requirement is that a parent attends with the student and signs a Release of Liability form.

A youth empowerment group focused on preventing teen dating violence and spreading awareness. Members earn volunteer hours through meetings, event planning, and tabling. Students who attend SAVE events and workshops earn hours as well.

Sort and organize donated items for Titan Thrift, a student thrift program run through the JFK Wellness Center.

A career-exploration program for teens interested in firefighting, with monthly trainings, ride-alongs, and a fire academy. Open to ages 14 through 21 who have completed eighth grade and keep at least a 2.0 GPA.

Help with the Newark Days Parade — tasks range from coordinating participants to walking in the parade carrying banners. Specific tasks will be assigned upon arrival.

In-person · One-time · 5 hrs/shift

Help with a variety of race-related tasks for the Newark Mile 4K, including check-in of runners, setup of the race, monitoring the course, and clean-up after the race is done.

Help with check-in and setup of vendor booths at the Newark Days Arts, Crafts, and Trade Fair.

Support unhoused individuals and families across the Bay Area through shelter programs and outreach. Must be at least 12 years old and Covid-19 vaccinated to volunteer.
